This year, spring’s biggest nail trends are all about fun: Exaggerated square shapes, bold colors, and mismatched nail art are just a few popular styles happening right now. Not to mention, there’s a bevy of unique celeb nails to look to for inspiration. Earlier this week, Kylie Jenner debuted an iridescent chrome mani, Zendaya’s latest Challengers look included a square-tip French mani, and at CinemaCon in Los Vegas, Cynthia Ervio wore long witchy nails that took cues from her Wicked character, Elphaba.
Celebrities leaning into their characters has been a major trend on the red carpet, and the events leading up to the Wicked release have delivered when it comes to style and beauty. At the event, Erivo was joined by co-star Ariana Grande who plays Glinda the Good Witch, and director Jon M. Chu to give a preview of the film. Where Grande blossomed into a real-life flower fairy, Erivo went for a green punk-glam Versace look.
Dressed by stylist Jason Bolden (who has also dressed Sabrina Carpenter, Steph Curry, and Vanessa Hudgens) Erivo gave witchy glamour in an Atelier Versace outfit. Her look consisted of an off-the-shoulder green corset paired with a disco ball-esque mini skirt and knee-high green boots for a modern-day take on Elphaba’s style. (If Elphaba was heading to the club, she’d wear this.) Her outfit was equal parts fun and sophisticated, making for the perfect press tour look.

Of course, her beauty look was just as iconic (and green). For makeup, she opted for soft a bronzy glow paired with fluffy lashes and a contrasting lip, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin. Her nails, however, were the star of the show. The actor’s long stiletto nails came in two shades: A light green shade and bright Kelly green switching with every other nail. Each nail also had pops of 3D flowers, gold flecks, and gems throughout. She was also spotted wearing the manicure at a fashion event earlier this week, where she kept the witchy vibes going with a black dress and big green ring.
Elizabeth Garcia, a nail artist who owns The Nail Room in Queens, New York, recently told Byrdie that she anticipates a rise in 3D nail art and jelly colors, perfectly exemplified by Erivo’s mani. While the actor’s look was definitely the work of a pro, it can be replicated fairly easily at home with various shades of green polish and nail decals.
Green nails may be a hard sell, but Erivo has totally convinced us. For now, it's safe to say that her nails are wicked cool.
