Demure and cutesy are two compliments I’d gladly accept on my nails, and the perfect manicure for it has to be the vanilla French manicure. Of course, sweets inspired another one of Zola Ganzorigt’s viral nail trends (ICYMI: She’s the manicurist behind Hailey Bieber’s glazed nails), but this one doesn’t involve any chrome or pearly powder. Instead, it closely resembles the “American” French manicure, which includes a neutral off-white polish and natural-looking base shade that is a bit more low-key than the typical French but keeps the same classic feel. “I like to talk to my clients about what they want, their vision and [let them] suggest color or nail designs,” Ganzorigt told Byrdie. “That’s how I created the vanilla French nails.” Ahead, we’ve rounded up 12 of our favorite vanilla French nail looks to try for an elegant, refined manicure.
Classic Vanilla French
Yes, the vanilla French looks very similar to the traditional style, however, Ganzorigt explains that they are “more toned down and softer compared to traditional white French nails, and it makes it more natural-looking.” To get the look she used OPI’s Put it in Neutral and Funny Bunny.
Minimalist Vanilla French
The vanilla French manicure is a great option for those growing out their nails. Since the look is meant to be as natural-looking as possible, paint a sheer coat of polish on almond-shaped nails for a pared-back take on the design.
Chrome Vanilla French
Add a bit of shine to the vanilla nail look by dusting on a chrome powder to the tips of the nails. The creamier polish combined with the shimmery chromes creates a frosty appearance on French tips that's so pretty.
Micro Vanilla French
The micro version of the vanilla French manicure is perfectly elegant. It features a super thin half-moon across the tips of the nails in a milky, off-white shade.

Slanted Vanilla French
To jazz up your classic French manicure design, instead of half-moons on the tips, go for a slanted side swoosh. It has a modern feel that elongates almond-shaped nails even more.
Vanilla Latte French
For a creamier take on the vanilla French opt for a shade that’s closer to beige or eggshell for a vanilla latte French manicure. This nail design from manicurist Safia uses an ecru hue for an even softer look.
Milky Vanilla French
Combine the milky manicure trend with the vanilla French design for the ideal low-key yet refined nail look. This nail art includes a blended French manicure using softer shades for a seamless, your-nails-but-better manicure.
Glazed Vanilla French
You can't go wrong with a glazed finish. Upgrade the vanilla French manicure with a shimmering top coat that would likely have Hailey Bieber's stamp of approval.
Coffin Vanilla French
The coffin shape and XXL length brings a bit of maximalist flair to the toned-down vanilla French manicure. The softer vanilla shade stands out even more when painted on the long square tips.
Vanilla French Ombré
The ombré vanilla French manicure nail blends the two shades together to create a muted gradient look. Use the same neutral base and light tip as you would for the manicure but blend the two together with the lightest shade on the tips instead of applying crisp half moons.
Stiletto Vanilla French
Although an almond-shape is often associated with French manicures, it’s worth trying the vanilla design on sharp stiletto nails. The pointed tip is extra edgy, and paired with a glossy top-coat, it feels especially cool.
Pearl Vanilla French
Lana Del Rey’s coquette summer manicure reminded us that pearls are the perfect refined accent on any manicure, including the vanilla French. Outline the tips of the nails with tiny pearls that add some fun texture.
