As fall days usher in, so do cooler weather and darker color palettes. While you might start to trade your strappy sandals for boots and loafers, there’s still that transition period between seasons that calls for open-toe shoes—and a good pedicure. Plus, we are strong advocates for giving all of your nails love year-round. In either case, the perfect nail color is a must. Ahead, nail experts Tina Le and Amy Ling Lin give their hot takes on the trendiest fall pedicures. Read on for the 9 colors they suggest adding to your inspiration board ahead of the fall season.
Onyx Black
Cooler weather calls for darker colors, and inky black toes give off a chic and sophisticated vibe. Lin says onyx black polish is the perfect edgy touch to pair with fall denim and leather. To keep the look bold and not witchy, keep the nails short and reach for a super glossy topcoat.
Taupe
Le calls taupe, “a neutral, understated color perfect for a minimalistic fall look.” The hue is warmer than the trendy milky shades or cappuccino-colored tones. No matter the specific shade, taupe will give off a cozy vibe. “It’s an excellent transition color from summer to fall and complements a wide range of skin tones, making it a versatile pick,” she adds.
Burgundy
Burgundy pedicures are forever a fall favorite simply because of how versatile the wine-inspired shade is. According to Le, this color “embodies the season’s richness.” For more of a matchy-matchy look, use a similar color for your manicure as well. The deeper the hue, the more timeless the pedicure.
Magenta
Summer may be pretty much over, but you don’t have to swear off brighter colors just yet. “[Wearing magenta on the toes] gives balance and confidence,” says Lin. “This shade is the perfect pedicure pick-me-up because it’s still bold, making it a great color choice to beat off those post-summer vacation blues.”
Metallic Silver
If you’re someone who likes more of a glamorous look, but still want to have a bit of fun, silver is the perfect pedicure color for you. The key to keeping silver from looking too kitschy is to stick with a metallic shade versus a glittery one. “It’s also the perfect nail color to wear to transition from the sunny vibes of summer into the sparkle of fall while still standing out,” adds Lin.

Burnt Orange
Get totally immersed in pumpkin spice latte season with a pedicure that matches the signature drink’s color palette. “Burnt orange nail polish screams fall and is the perfect warm shade to wear [all season long]”, says Lin. “It brings an earthy, cozy look right to the toes.” If you want to level up this trend even further, opt for a polish that has some shimmer.
We know black nail polish isn’t for everyone, but that’s where navy blue comes into play. “It’s a sophisticated alternative and offers depth and elegance,” Le adds. Opt for a solid shade of deep blue to keep things simple, or add a bit of playfulness with flecks of shimmer.
Glazed Finishes
The glazed donut look is making its way off the fingers and onto the toes. According to Lin, pedicures that sport a glazed finish are just as playful and fun as their manicure counterparts. “Chrome also adds a subtle shimmer to the toes that feels feminine and fresh. It’s the perfect look for minimalist nail lovers who want something that pops without going over the top,” she adds. Don’t fret, the application is super simple. A layer of your favorite chrome powder over a neutral or light color does the trick.
Deep Plum
Lavender had its time in the spotlight this summer, and now it’s time to take things down a few notches. Welcome plum, the ultimate darker iteration of purple. More muted yet still with plenty of depth, Lin says that deep plum polishes are the perfect bold and dramatic option for your pedicure.
