We haven’t been treated to this many back-to-back red-carpet moments from Anne Hathaway in a while. Just in the past few weeks, Hathaway has been on a hot streak when it comes to appearances. First, at the Independent Spirit Awards where she revived a very millennial nail color—seafoam—and brand-new French girl bangs. Now, she’s taking on SXSW with another millennial trend and a naked micro French manicure.
On March 16, Hathaway was in Austin, Texas, to attend the world premiere of her new film, The Idea of You, at the South by Southwest conference and festival. What did she wear to promote the film based around mid-2010s fanfiction? A peak 2010s chevron print with her very 2024 manicure.
We were both obsessed with her spangly dress and surprised to see such a millennial coded print return so quickly. However, once we got past our initial reactions, we realized the nails she paired it with are on the top of our “to try” list for spring and summer.
All short and naturally shaped, each of her nails were picture-perfect without looking like they had much polish on at all. Glossy and healthy-looking, each was a classic micro French manicure, just in a 2024 “naked” variety.
The base of Hathaway’s nails was the same as any French: glossy and neutral, not too far off from her natural nail color. In the case of this look, it had the slightest tinge of pink without being a statement. Then, where the tips of her nails would naturally form, a milky off-white color perfected their shape, forming into the natural curve of her nails. Hathaway’s nail look is spot on with the latest trending French to go viral; the “naked” French, which is a your nails but better look meets a classic French mani.
To go with the manicure, the superstar kept her full French girl bangs she debuted just weeks ago. This time around, she styled them wispy and bouncy with a peek-a-boo effect. She left the rest of her hair down, with loose waves traveling to her chest. It was a timeless look that perfectly offset her statement dress.
A sequin silver Patou minidress, it featured think straps and a slightly plunging neckline. The most exciting feature? Two strips of beaded chevron print across her chest and the bottom hem of the garment. In the style’s typical zig-zag pattern, strings of shiny rectangular crystals made up the design. Much bigger than the sequins on the rest of her dress, these reflected the lights of the paparazzi and tied in her silver heels and purse even more.
