I will never, ever be someone who has a capsule wardrobe or signature manicure style, and I doubt Bella Hadid will be either. Why keep things tightly curated when there are so many fun looks in the world? Sometimes you need to be a coquette cowgirl and sometimes you need a mystical vibe to match your soon-to-launch, alchemy-themed beauty brand.
With that being said, there are some instances where simplicity wins out—even for Bella. On March 31, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to share some new shots—and thus a new manicure—from her latest Victoria’s Secret campaign. Surprisingly, the style is just one step above bare nails in terms of taking it easy: a “naked” French manicure.
One of this spring’s most popular nail art trends, the “naked” french manicure was previously defined for Byrdie by UK-based nail artist Georgia Rae, who called it “a more subtle interpretation of the classic French.” “It still gives that natural look but it blurs any discoloration for a more refined appearance,” she shared. Taking a your-nails-but-better approach in both shape and design, it’s like you woke up everyday with your nails perfectly filed, trimmed, and just a little glossy. The unique tips are there, but not the kind of there you see with a Y2K pink-and-white French mani.
Because she’s Bella Hadid, the Kin Euphorics founder didn’t go so far as to stay simple and short with her look. Instead, her nails are medium-long with a sharp almond shape. (I wouldn’t go so far as to call them stiletto, but there’s a definite point there.) The color is another departure from the norm, with a pinkish hue replacing the clear or true-nude shade that you so often see. It sort of reminds me of Apres Nails’ Fairy Wings gel polish, which Selena Gomez recently rocked for a Rare Beauty photoshoot.
To finish her look, Hadid donned a selection of bikinis, simple makeup, and sleek, wet-ish looking hair styled in a middle part. Posing with a clear pink inner tube, it was almost like she just got back to the pool. As we know, mermaids are big purveyors of a capsule wardrobe (they only have one color to work with!!!) so it makes sense that the “naked” French manicure will be a summertime favorite, too.
