While scrolling Instagram this morning, did you fall victim to thinking a photo of Blake Lively was from 2008 when it was actually from one single day ago? You’ll know the image when you see it (or maybe you won’t, thinking it’s an old Gossip Girl paparazzi shot). With Serena van der Woodsen blonde hair and a bedazzled blue dress, the actor smiles for the camera, probably content in knowing she’s aging backward and fooling everyone who will see the photos in the morning.

There is *one* foolproof way to tell when a Blake Lively photo is from, however: you check out her manicure. Medium-long, oval-shaped, and elegant, this one was absolutely giving 2024. Nail artist Elle Gerstein would agree; she even went so far as to assign her creation a very of-the-2020s trend name: quiet luxury.

In an Instagram post (the exact one that tricked me, by the way) on May 2, Gerstein shared photos of Lively’s nails. “Glamorous and perfectly on trend with her quiet luxury manicure tonight by me!” she wrote. Painted a pretty Bubble Bath-esque shade, the finish is oh-so-glossy.

Lively was all dressed up for the debut of Pharrell Williams' Tiffany Titan Collection at Tiffany & Co.'s Landmark store in New York. While the new line consists of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings set in 18k yellow gold or titanium, the Betty Buzz founder went for a different, brighter, approach with her jewelry, wearing a diamond hand chain and blue and yellow diamonds.

Her blue beaded dress, which Vogue guesses is a circa 1960s midcentury vintage piece from Braxae Vintage Co., had major mermaid energy with its scale-like design, a theme that continued in her lengthy old-Hollywood curls by Jennifer Yepez. Makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez also gave the look an oceanic air with a coral lip courtesy of Armani Beauty Lip Power Long Lasting Lipstick ($45) in shade 303.

Listen, the Serena van der Woodsen quiet luxury '60s mermaid approach has major summer 2024 trend potential. The good news is we have a little time to think of a catchier name.
