Keke Palmer’s Chocolate Chrome Nails Are Good Enough to Eat

Keke “Booked and Busy” Palmer always seems to have the trendiest, most picture-perfect manicure to go with her ever-changing hairstyles. Her swirly pink nail look, holiday-themed mismatched mani, reverse French tips, latte nails, and silver French manicure are just a few of our favorites. However, her most recent nail look is giving all of those a run for their money.

On March 13, the multi-hyphenate posted an Instagram carousel showing off her latest TV appearance as the host of the gameshow Password. Her first guests of the season? Jimmy Fallon and Joe Manganiello. For the big season premiere, Palmer obviously had to look the part—which she did down to her chocolate chrome manicure.

Paired with a curly hairstyle, a flowy floral blouse, larger-than-life glasses, and a brown suede skirt, Palmer’s nails glistened with a reflective, chocolaty chrome nail moment.

Medium-length and almond-shaped, each of her nails matched with the same chocolatey hue. This was not so much dark chocolate, and definitely not white chocolate. This was the perfect milk chocolate brown color. Then, on top of the classic shade, Keke added a modern twist with a shiny chrome effect. The addition of chrome powder turned this from a simple brown mani to a fresh and original design that we wouldn’t be surprised to see turn into a trend of its own.

Luckily for us, you don’t need to host your own game show to pull off chocolate nails. Plus, we have you covered with the step-by-step to emulate Palmer’s look.

First, as with any nail look, remove any lingering nail polish with remover. Then, cut and file your nails to the desired length and shape—this would also be the time to apply any tips or press-on if you want. After that, buff the surface for an even nail bed before applying your favorite base coat.

Then, it’s time for color. With your nails prepped and dry, paint two even coats of a color like OPI’s Chocolate Moose ($12) over the top and let dry. There are a few different things you can do to get the chrome effect on top. First, take any shimmering nude or brown eyeshadow and dust it over the brown polish, or grab a metallic powder made for nails like Mia Secret’s Metallic Flakes ($13). Either way, finish off with a high-shine top coat, and you’re set.
