We know and love SZA for her trend-setting, award-winning music—after all, that’s why she’s one of the most popular R&B singers of our generation and had the most nominations of any artist at the 2024 Grammys. However, it feels like no one really talks about how she’s also a bonafide manicure muse. One scroll through her Instagram, and you’ll see countless manis that look just as ethereal, experimental, and beautiful as her music—just like her latest manicure, a green French tip with chrome web detailing.
On March 21, SZA posted a photo dump to Instagram showing off mirror selfies, her bike-riding skills, some candid shots of her in an alley, and all the outfits and glam that went with it. What were the outfits and glam, you ask? Her takes on the coquette and bloquette trends, all with the aforementioned mani.
Clearly, the nails are what drew us in first. In the mirror selfies we got an up close and personal look at them—all long and coffin shaped with nearly exact-matching designs.
Each of the nails started with a base coat that was practically her nails, but better. The part closest to the cuticle was glossy, sheer, and fairly spot on with what her natural nails would look like—just more glamorous. Then, about halfway through the nail, the French tip formed with a soft ombré effect. The tip started with a light green shade, and got a few shades darker as they got closer to the tips.
On top of this base, each nail had a slightly different chrome web design, though they were the same in theme. For example, some had a more blob-like design sitting in the center of the nail, while others had a spiky string slithering around the nail. They were all silver, reflective, and slightly more 3D than the rest of the manicure, making them unique and all the more edgy.
Obviously, we also have to talk about the outfits she paired with the nails. The first and most surprising to pair with this mani was a full lace coquette outfit. SZA wore a ruffle and bow-filled pair of bloomers with an off-the-shoulder see-through white lace top. The top had blue ribbon details and a floral print throughout. Finishing off the look was white lace socks and black platform Mary Janes.
The other look, on the flip side, made a lot more sense with this manicure. Green Adidas shorts were layered over knee-high blue socks and paired with a flowy halter top made of cut-up t-shirts stitched together with lace. Sunglasses, soccer shoes, and some necklaces were the finishing touches.
