Tracee Ellis Ross’s Raindrop Nails Pay Homage to Spring Showers

Tracee Ellis Ross’s hair often finds its way into the spotlight, and rightfully so. The Pattern Beauty founder is perhaps our best current example of a hair chameleon, never afraid to go bigger, curlier, longer, or all of the above with her (extremely healthy) locks. But while you’re staring at her updo, it’s never a bad idea to take a break and focus on her also-always-fun nails.

On March 30, the 51-year-old shared her most recent manicure to her Instagram story. A three-dimensional creation by none other than celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt, it features a nude base with clear bumps scattered about like rain droplets on a car window. Naturally, the pair dubbed it the “raindrop mani”—the perfect name for a style that kicks off a month of April showers.

"Pretty raindrop nails inspired by the chic [Jessica Willis]," wrote Ellis Ross, tagging The Cut's fashion director in her post.

While surely less than easy to create, the manicure is simple in concept. Ellis Ross’s nails are long and almond shaped, and appear to have been painted a nude color before the clear coat came out. Ganzorigt has been known to regularly utilize OPI’s Put It In Neutral and Bubble Bath (both $12), while the brands Gel Plump Effect top coat ($15) is a good choice to get the thick, clear look at home. The style is similar to a studded manicure she recently created for Sydney Sweeney, which swapped the clear bumps for silvery baubles.

I'm not sure what the rest of Ellis Ross's look entailed when she premiered the manicure, but I'm sure it was fabulous. Days later, it appeared the nail art was still going strong while in the workout studio; she shared a video of her leg day routine to her Instagram story where you can see the faintest hint of 3D art as she sweats through a Tracy Anderson Method class.

From your after-salon plans to the next day’s workout and beyond, let it be known that a sculptural manicure is always a good choice. Next month, I hope the American Fiction actor goes with a flower design to stick to the theme—April showers bring May flowers, obviously. Whatever her vision, there’s no doubt Ganzorigt can make it happen.
